The Chancellor Sajid Javid, announced that every nurse and midwife working in the NHS to have access to a personal training budget of £1,000. This will help nurses advance their careers, develop new skills and gain advance qualifications. As well as helping nurses, the training budget has been a welcome investment after years of cuts.
RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary Dame Donna Kinnair said:
“After years of cutbacks, this announcement may start to put things right. Nurses will see it as an acknowledgement that the government sees investment in professional development as important.
“This will help to ensure every individual nurse can access the training they need to increase their skills and knowledge further – though it needs to be extended to all nursing staff, not just those in the NHS.”
This is in addition to the more recently pledged £1.8 billion cash boost for the entire NHS., which will affect the frontline staff and services that help millions of people in the UK.
The money will be spent with over 80 hospital Trusts on cutting edge equipment, with the best technology available for patients. Better machinery will be beneficial to both doctors, nurses and patients alike, as they will break down less and increase patient turnaround times.
